Senior Database Administrator/Architect (Oracle) - Harrisburg, PA

Senior Architect responsible for designing, developing, and implementing application infrastructure to provide highly-complex, reliable, and scalable applications and systems to meet the organization's objectives and requirements.

Complete Description:
The client is in need of a highly experienced Senior Architect experienced in Oracle 11G transactional databases deployed on Microsoft Windows 2008 Servers. This resource will work on the PA-National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (PA-NEDSS) project team to assist in reviewing the current PA-NEDSS Transactional and Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) database architecture and provide actionable recommendations to improve system availability, support, and future needs of the PA-NEDSS project. The client is seeking a Senior Database Administrator / Architect experienced in architecting and implementing Oracle’s Real Application Clusters (RAC) systems. Also experience with 11G’s Automatic Storage Management (ASM) feature.

The PA-NEDSS is a mission critical application requiring high availability for near real-time, secure communication link between laboratories, hospitals, medical practices, clinics and PA Public Health investigators. The Database Developer / Architect must possess advanced Oracle 11G RAC Database Administration (DBA) and PL/SQL development skills. We are looking for a team player who can understand and convey to client DBAs recommendations to the current PA-NEDSS Transactional/ELR Oracle database configuration.

Tasks to be accomplished during this engagement will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform review of current PA-NEDSS Transactional/ELR Database architecture, implementation, configuration
• Review past database incidents and provide recommendations to mitigate similar issues in the future
• Provide recommendations for implementing Transparent Application Failover (TAF)
• Provide improvements to the PA-NEDSS RAC to handle partial-site failure (single-node) to minimize user downtime
• Review PA-NEDSS Transactional/ELR batch processes and recommend improvements
• Review PA-NEDSS Transactional/ELR database indexes, partitions and PL/SQL code and provide performance improvement recommendations
• Review database backup procedures and provide any recommendations for improvement
• Develop a data archive strategy and provide Oracle 11G best practices to maximize effectiveness and supportability
• Review current database monitoring process/scripts that run to alert DBAs of database incidents after hours and provide improvements where applicable
• Review lower environments (e.g., development, UAT, staging) and provide recommendations to improve promotion and support activities

This engagement will consist of 40-hour work weeks. This resource will report to, and will be supervised by client staff.

Oracle Database 11G Administrator Certified Master or Professional Required
Experience Installing, Tuning, and supporting Oracle RAC on Windows Servers Required 10 Years
Experience with PL/SQL development Required 10 Years
Experience using Oracle 10G/11G Automated Storage Management (ASM) feature Required 5 Years
Experience in Transactional Databases Required 5 Years
