Our client is in need of an Oracle DBA who is experienced on Oracle 11g and experienced with Microsoft SQL databases as a secondary skill sets. They would like to have this DBA do a 6 month assignment with possible extension.
This position will design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. This position will direct the operation, accuracy, and reliability of the client's administrative system (SunGardHE Banner) as well as other systems used in support of the client’s mission; administering the Oracle and SQL Server databases and application servers; upgrading and patching the Banner system and other systems; and participating in and overseeing the maintenance of other related servers. The position may require additional/flexible hours to accommodate maintenance windows and participation in 24/7 on-call rotation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess and develops long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers. Designs and implements redundant systems policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets. Conducts research and makes recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Installs and configures relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity. Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues. Monitors database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time. Creates and maintains diagnostic/monitoring tools and scripts to aid in the maintenance of database tuning and performance. Monitors, optimizes and allocates physical data storage for database systems. Maintain database backup and recovery strategy. Develops, implements, and maintains change control and testing processes for modifications to databases. Performs database transaction and security audits. Establishes appropriate end-user database access control levels.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Processing or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Experience with database administration or applications development experience in client/server environment. Advanced knowledge of database administration practices (preferably, but not exclusively Oracle) and knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL. Experience in Oracle 10g, AIX and Solaris, and the Oracle RMAN utility. Demonstrated ability working in Unix environments (such as AIX) and capable of creating and modifying Unix shell scripts. Development experience in client/server environment and experience with project management.. Knowledge of current hardware, client/server, operating systems and applications software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to interact courteously and effectively with customers and team members at all levels.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree. Oracle certification. Experience implementing and supporting the SunGard Higher Education's Banner Enterprise application in a higher education environment.
